"THE AVIAN, EDUCATION, CONSERVATION, AND ECOLOGY PROJECT" 2015-2018

THE AVIAN, EDUCATION, CONSERVATION, & ECOLOGY PROJECT

The overall purposes of the Avian Education, Conservation, and Ecology Project are to A) provide students from three school districts and the public an opportunity to grow in their excitement for birds, B) deepen both student and public understanding and appreciation for the ecological factors, both abiotic and biotic, that influence the four eco-regions of Nebraska, as identified by the Nebraska Game and Parks, C) to utilize birds as a focal point around which students can apply their understanding of Biology and Ecology, D) to teach students how biologists utilize bird counts and bird banding for obtaining data, which can be used for assessing biodiversity, population densities of specific bird populations, and changes in environmental health.

The project involves both a Student Education Component and a Reporting Component. The Student Education Component will be three-fold; 1) Development of Background Knowledge, 2) Development and Practice of Skills, 3) Field Study Experience.  The Reporting Component of the project will be two-fold; 1) Public Education/Awareness, 2) Reporting to the Scientific Community.
