Conservation Day at Summit
Sixth Grade Field Trip
On Thursday, September 29, sixth grade students attended Conservation Day at Summit Lake. This field trip opportunity is provided by the Extension Offices of Burt, Cuming, Dakota, Dodge, Thurston, and Washington Counties. They also pair with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Papio-Missouri River NRD to provide this educational opportunity to 6th grade students around the area.
Students took a nature hike around the lake. On the hike, we saw many different kinds of plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. We also attended four education sessions. The sessions dealt with soil conservation, wildlife of the lake area, water cycle, and forestry of the lake area. Students looked at different bugs and got the chance to see a bull snake up close.
