Coming To A Town Near You!

The second stop on the tour was A and D's Hotstuff

When one thinks of a tour, what comes to mind?  U2? Usher? Maybe Taylor Swift?  Now one can add the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Select Band to the list of hot music tours to come to the area.   Recently sixteen elementary band students participated in the Second Annual Select Band Tour.   John Mayo, LDNE Music Director and Select Band Tour Director started the annual tour last year as a way to motivate and reward elementary band students.  Students had to be invited on the tour by participating in an honor band, consistently coming to band prepared, practicing their instruments, and checking off a certain amount of music.

The tour consisted of four stops in three cities.  The first stop was the home performance for LDNE Preschool through sixth grade students.  Next the band stopped for pizza at A and D’s Hotstuff in Oakland.   After Oakland the band performed at the Decatur Senior Center to the delight of all in attendance.   The last stop of the tour was at the Logan Valley Manor.

Jacob Whitaker was the highest achieving sixth grade band student and was awarded the highly coveted Tour Manager position while Cassidy Mentink was the highest achieving fifth grader and was awarded with the Stage Manager position.  Much like professional tours, Every Select Band Tour member was part of either the Loading/Unloading Crew or the Staging Crew.

To show their pride in their achievements, students were given custom backstage passes and even had the option of purchasing tour shirts.  The tour officially ended with a tour party which took place during their band period in school the following day.  Thank you the tour bus driver Kelly French, LDNE administration and staff, A and D’s Hotstuff in Oakland, the Decatur Senior Center, and the Logan Valley Manor for being part of our tour!

The tour was running a little a head of schedule so we decided to take a break at the City Park

Elementary students who earned a spot on the 2011 Select Band Tour roster are:  Hunter Ferguson, Brock Vetick, Tyler Kroger, Jacob Whitaker, Jenny Simms, Kelly Wakely, Benny Estrada Lujan, Ali Smith, Jacob Nelson, Kaitlin Appleton, Amanda Alford, Matt Hartley, Cassidy Mentink, Kassandra Prieto-Garcia, Mia Nelson, and Amelia Schlichting.
