Let the Games Begin Written by freshman Brandi Simonsen Sports. It is what keeps the town of Lyons together. Since school has started so has volleyball. The team consists of 6 seniors: Madie Ronnfeldt, Brianne Haskell, Libby Henneman, Mickayla Petersen, Abby Peterson, & Tessie Collins. Two juniors: Lexie Bacon & Kelly Wakeley. One sophomore: Sophia Henneman. & One freshman: Brandi Simonsen. All have all been to summer camps and in the weight room every single day since June 1st. With games on the records, I asked Coach Hathaway a few questions about the team. First, I asked her, How would you describe the team or compare them to other teams? Her answer, “We are small but mighty! I truly believe that we are the hardest working team in the EHC. The girls on this team show amazing dedication to the sport but more importantly each other. I love going to practice with these girls because I know they come to work hard and have fun!” Next, I asked what improvements could be made? Her response, “As a team we need to work on playing consistent defense. Now that entails things like communication and constant effort for the ball. I also believe that we have to work on the flow of our offense. We have some great hitters on our team but we need to have big hitters across the front row.” Lastly, I asked what do she expected from this team, seeing on how we’ve played? “I expect great things to be coming from this team! I truly believe that we have what it takes to go far this season. We have work to do as a team and I can't wait to see what we come up with as the season goes on.” This year seems like a promising year as long as we fight through the struggles. The Lady Cougars will play Emerson-Hubbard & Winnebago in Winnebago Triangular on 24th and will play a double dual against Wisner Pilger at Wisner on the 29th.
