LDNE’s Remarkable New Track

Written by 9th Grader Brock Vetick

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast track teams now have an outstanding new track and runways to compete and practice on! This new track will greatly impact our school and community alike. Students will have a better surface to run on, which will help them run better. The community will also have a new track to walk and exercise on. Overall, the new track at LDNE should have a major impact in many ways. The new track should be an improved surface for runners to compete on. I asked Pat Vetick of Vetick Construction what changes they made to to the runways, and he replied, “The runways now have a new concrete base and have the track surface installed on them, which is thicker and should last longer.” I also asked track team member Tessie Collins why she is excited about the new track, and she said, “The softer surface should improve our overall performance and our footwork too.” The new surface is thicker than the old one, which is a major improvement. All in all, the students should have a more preferable surface to use for competing and practicing. The community of Lyons will also benefit from this resurfacing project. Many people walk at the track in the mornings or evenings for exercise. The old track had patches, which were tripping hazards. The new one should be smooth and level for both walking and running. The new track may even draw more members to the community and school. The community will benefit just as much as the school from the new track because of all of its wonderful features. The new track should be a great improvement to the school and community. Now it’s time to put your running shoes on and go to the track. Whether you enjoy running, jogging, or walking there is something for you to do. On your mark, get set, go!
