Burt County Leadership
Lyons-Decatur Northeast Participants in the 2012-13 Leadership Burt County Program
The Burt County Economic Development Corporation and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension coordinate a nine-month program called Leadership Burt County for people living and working in the county. The main purpose of the program is to help participants and communities to become more aware of the economic opportunities and quality of life aspects that prevail in Burt County’s five communities and rural spaces.
This year the program is expanding to include high school students. This group will see and think about where they live and work through different eyes. The students have an opportunity to interact with adults and adults generally get a dose of fresh ideas from the youth.
Throughout the nine month program, participants meet one day a month in different locations throughout the county. Topics explored throughout the program include developing personal skills, leadership, local and regional resource providers, and the many opportunities and hidden gems in Burt County. In February, participants travel to Lincoln to spend a day at the capitol building to observe the legislature in session, meet their senator, and to visit with the governor.
This year, Corey McCullock and Dakota Riecken are representing Lyons-Decatur Northeast. Andy Cronin is also participating in the Leadership Burt County Program for 2012-13. Good luck to the participants and we look forward to seeing the result.
