Second and Third Graders Take Community Field Trips

September 03, 2009

Articles written by Second and Third Grade students.

Second and Third Graders visited the Lyons Recycling Center on Friday, August 28, 2009.  We saw Terry Koch crush cardboard.  We saw him grind plastic milk jugs.  Recycled plastics can be used for houses, benches, parking bumpers, and decks.  The Lyons Recycling Center is open from 8:00-11:00 a.m. except for Thursday and Sunday.

We visited the Lyons Water Treatment Plant as well as the water tower.  We learned that there is a pipe that holds 300,000 gallons of water.  The water tower holds 170,000 gallons.  If there is an emergency at night or on the weekends, Terry Ueding wakes up to go fix it.  One job at the plant is to clean the water before it can be used again.
