LDNE Marching Band Represents and has fun doing it!

by John Mayo

August 29, 2010

Recently the LDNE Marching Band made the annual trek down to the Nebraska State Fair.  Even though the fair moved to Grand Island, the fair was still the same.  The day consisted of 6 hours of bus time, dozens of carnival rides and games, hundreds of booths, tasty food, and of course a public performance.

Even before Nebraska became the 37th state on March 1, 1867, the Nebraska State Fair was already being held along the banks of the Missouri River. In its formative years, the State Fair had many homes including: Nebraska City, Brownville, Lincoln and Omaha until in 1901, the Nebraska Legislature named Lincoln as the official home of the State Fair where it remained until 2009. On April 16, 2008 the legislature voted to move the State Fair to Grand Island commencing in 2010.
Since its inception, the Nebraska State Fair has showcased talent, products and people from Nebraska’s 93 counties. In the early days the fair was the social event of the year giving everyone an opportunity to meet distant neighbors, learn from others while enjoying both national and local entertainment.
