Sioux City Symphony: Christmas Specatular

by John Mayo

February 13, 2010

There are many traditions that come with the holiday season.  There are cookies, presents, family, and friends.   Oh and of course MUSIC!  Whether one thinks of Bing Crosby singing "White Christmas" or listening to The Irish Rovers sing "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer," fond memories come to mind.

There is another tradition that has been started by the LDNE Music Department and that is going to the Sioux Symphony's Christmas Spectacular.  The 2009 spectacular featured amazing singing, dancing, and playing from the Empire Brass, Siouxland Civic Dance, Siouxland Master Chorale,  and Siouxland Youth Chorus.  Three LDNE students attended the Spectacular and hopefully many more will next year.

For over 90 years, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra has been the premiere performing arts organization in the Northwest Iowa, Southeast South Dakota and Northeast Nebraska tri-state area. The Symphony's programs include formal concerts, family concerts, school-day concerts, in-school educational programs, and three youth orchestras. With over two hundred presentations annually, the Symphony fosters cultural, educational and economic development for the region and enriches the quality of life for thousands of tri-state area residents of all ages.
