Junior High Football Team Routs Pender for Second Victory
The Northeast Junior High football continued their winning ways
with a 62-0 victory over visiting Pender on September 29th.
Bringing their record to 2-0 into a home game with Bancroft-Rosalie
on Oct. 6th.
The Cougars were nearly perfect on offense racking up 414 yards of total offense. The team had 276 yards rushing on 30 carries with Alex Brehmer lead the potent rushing attack with 212 yards on 9 carries, including touchdown runs of 1, 70, 46, and 75 yards. Taylor Fuston added 39 yards on 5 carries with a touchdown run of 22 yards.
Anthony Smith lead the passing attack on 8 for 8 passing for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns to 3 different receivers: Taylor Fuston, Alex Brehmer, and Drew Zitek. Drew Zitek competed 1 of 2 pass for 20 yards with his only completion a touchdown to Taylor Fuston. Zitek finished with 5 receptions for 55 yards and 1 touchdown, Fuston had 2 receptions for 50 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Brehmer had 2 receptions for 35 yards and 1 touchdown.
Defensively the Cougars reeked havoc on the visiting Pender team all day. They forced 4 turnovers and had 7 tackles for losses. Alex Brehmer again led the defense recording 19 total tackles including 6 unassisted. Drew Zitek and Dakota Riecken were also in double figure tackles with 14 and 10 respectively.
Fuston and Riecken recovered 2 Pender fumbles and Anthony Smith and Shane McCulloch intercepted 2 Pender passes. McCulloch’s interception in the endzone saved the Cougar shutout, when he intercepted Pender’s only scoring threat in the game.
