The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Monday, September 8, 2008, in the secondary library. Present were, C Anderson, J. Anderson, Borchman-Hassebrook, Brehmer, Christiansen, Davis, Kellogg, Preston, Vlach, and Administrators Hansen and Smith.
The duly publicized meeting was opened at 7:36 p.m. Acknowledgement of receipt of notice and agenda for the meeting was taken by roll call.
Sean Minton, representing the Yearbook class, gave a slideshow to the Board on activities in the school.
Paul Timm, the new Science teacher was introduced to the Board. Mr. Timm prepared a brief slideshow on his family and interests.
Mr. Loftis gave a presentation on One to One Computing. Milt Dougherty, Superintendent from Little River, KS, talked to the Board about his school going to One to One Computing nine years ago. Also present were Matt Coates and Jon Beckman, representatives from Apple, Inc., to answer questions about One to One Computing.
The Superintendent’s report included the 3rd Day Enrollment report, the Building Construction Class report, and upcoming NASB meetings.
Principal Smith reported on the Elementary Open House, Junior High orientation, Activity reports, Statewide writing results, and the staff wellness challenge.
Mr. Wantz gave a report on ACT scores and the Baylor Test Prep course for Juniors and Seniors.
The minutes of the August meeting were approved and the treasurer’s report was accepted.
The following motions were made and approved:
1. General Fund claims in the amount $239,773.77.
2. To enter into a lease with Apple, Inc. to purse the One to One Computing initiative.
3. Approved the 2008-2009 Tax Request for the General Fund to be set at $2,235,635.00 and $80,800.00 for the Special Building Fund for a total tax request of $2,316,435.00.
4. Adjourn meeting at 10:12 p.m.
