Living the Legacy

at State FFA Convention

This past week the Lyons-Decatur Northeast FFA competed at State FFA Convention in Lincoln, NE and had many achievements. Top honors went to the Farm Business Management, named State Champions, and will represent Nebraska at the National Convention.  Individually, Corey Friedli won the event, Steele Valenzuela placed 4th, Megan Malloy 5th and Brittney Doht a blue ribbon.  Galvin Vetick and Jacob Niewohner each won their respective proficiency award areas and will have their applications forwarded on to national competition.

Eric Miller was named the State Champion Junior Public Speaker.  The Environmental and Natural Resources team earned state runner-up honors with Corey Friedli placing 3rd, Danielle King 4th, and Eric Anderson and Jessica Freese earning red ribbons.  Kristen Cameron and Eric Miller (two areas) earned second place honors in their proficiency award areas.  For her efforts in Career Development Events, Corey Friedli also earned a $500 CASNR Scholarship.

The seniors Kristen Cameron, Brittney Doht, Jessica Freese, Corey Friedli, Danielle King, Megan Malloy, Karlyn Miller, Steele Valenzuela, and Galvin Vetick all received their State Degree which is the highest award given at the state level. The Senior and Junior Parliamentary Procedure teams both received silvers. The Junior Livestock and Meat ID & Evaluation teams both received blue ribbons.  The Agriscience and Welding teams both received red placings and the Nursery & Landscape team received white.The chapter was also recognized for the Governor’s Agricultural Excellence Award as well as recognition for being a long time supporter of the FFA Division of the Nebraska State Fair.
