COURSE DESCRIPTION
Construction is a class offered for students as an in depth course in the construction area of technology. Students will learn the fundamentals of construction and the various processes involved. Some of the processes they will learn are: concrete placement, wall framing, roof framing, stair framing, sheathing, sheetrock, vinyl siding, roofing, and finish work. Students will be able to practice these techniques on hands-on projects and on actual construction projects that vary with availability. Students are encouraged to carry a few basic tools (hammer, pouch, square, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.) in order to ensure everyone always is prepared. Safety equipment will be provided by the school.
COUSRE OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the safe and proper use of all hand and power tools.
- Maintain and adjust tools used in class.
- Accurately interpret a set of blueprints.
- Create an accurate take-off from a set of blueprints.
- Construct batter boards and layout a structure on site.
- Construct forms for concrete, pour concrete and finish concrete.
- Perform basic framing tasks.
- Set rafters or trusses.
- Install wall and roof sheathing.
- Install roofing and siding materials.
- Hang, tape and sand drywall.
- Install windows and doors.
- Cut and install base board and window casing.
- Create a bid for a construction job.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
- Read and study assignments as minimal preparation for class.
- Successful and timely completion of all tests, quizzes, assigned lab work and other assignments.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area, daily clean-up is required and is part of your grade.
- Demonstrate safe work habits when working on projects.
- Have a positive attitude towards your classmates and demonstrate teamwork.
- Wear appropriate work clothing.
- Represent the school in a positive manner when working on jobsites.
- Compile a job portfolio containing drawings, materials lists and bids of jobs done.
- Create a resume for future use.
