The Board of Education of the Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 met in regular session on Monday, August 13, 2007, in the secondary library. Present were C Anderson, J Anderson, Borchman-Hassebrook, Davis, Kellogg, Preston, and Vlach and Administrators Hansen and Smith. Excused Absence: Brehmer and Christiansen.
The duly publicized meeting was opened at 7:42 p.m. and acknowledgement of receipt of notice and agenda was taken by roll call.
Board President, Trevor Preston read a Thank you note from Vicki Davis-Hankins thanking the Board for their dedication and hard work throughout her years of service at the school.
The Communications Committee Reported their meeting with representatives from the Lyons-Mirror Sun. Expectations and ideas from both sides were given. Jodi Jordan from the Mirror-Sun was in attendance to provide additional input and to report that the paper has been sold and was unsure of changes coming from new ownership.
Superintendent Hansen reported that the custodians and painters have been working hard this summer and have completed several projects including: A thorough cleaning throughout the school; new carpet in the HS SPED room, preschool room, teachers lounge, and counselor’s office; many rooms have new paint; painted the new gym walls; new logo on the gym wall; replaced roof over the music room and administration offices; in the process of replacing the roof on the 1907 building in conjunction with the collapse of the parapet wall; new sidewalk on the north side of the 1930 building; replaced the approach to Lincoln Street from the school property. Currently there are 24 students signed up for preschool to be split into morning and afternoon classes. A summary of the NDE finance meeting on July 19th and the Administrator’s meeting on August 1-3 in Kearney was given.
Principal Smith gave a summary on workshops attended at Administrator Day’s in Kearney, and the meeting he attended regarding dual credit courses in Norfolk.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the treasurer’s report was accepted.
The following motions were made and approved:
1. General Fund claims in the amount $420,704.73.
2. Approve payment of the Employee Benefit fund unemployment claim in the amount of $721.00 which was paid on July 16, 2007.
3. Authorize Beth Doht to pay quarterly unemployment claims prior to the regular monthly board meeting to avoid paying a late fee penalty through February 2008 board meeting.
4. Approve the following new and updated Board Policies - #7810 – Trespassing; #7820 – Bidding Construction Projects Procedures; #7830 – Facilities – Performance, Labor and Materials Payments Bonds; #7840 – Records Management and Disposition; #7850 – NCLB Compliance of Federal Programs; #2450 – Social Security Numbers; #6112 update to Homeless Children.
5. The Lyons-Decatur Public Schools extend the budget limitation basic allowable growth rate of 2.5% for the 2007-2008 budget of expenditures and access allowable growth allowance and adopt a 3.5% limit for the 2007-2008 school year, provided, if growth is not necessary, such budget growth will not be requested in taxes but will be placed in unused budget authority or funded through other revenue sources.
6. The motion to exceed the $1.05 levy limitations by $33,350.00 was tabled until the August 27th meeting.
7. Approve all revised job descriptions as presented.
8. Adjourn the meeting at 9:16 p.m.
