FFA Members Named District Champions
--14 qualify for state
The Lyons-Decatur Northeast FFA Chapter participated in the District Leadership Skills Events on November 21, 2006 at Logan View High School. Competing in a variety of ten leadership events, the FFA members learned technical skills, exhibited and honed their own speaking and presentation skills, and competed in the district events.
The chapter concluded another successful evening with two events winning the District Championship and advancing on to represent the district in the state event. The Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of Eric Anderson, Ashley Bacon, Brianne Bacon, Dalton Beck, Beau Brink, Morgan Daberkow, and Vanessa Vetick exhibited proper parliamentary abilities, completed a knowledge test, and answered oral questions. Eric Miller also won the Creed Speaking event where he presented the FFA Creed and answered questions about his presentation. The Senior Parliamentary Law Team of Derek Haskell, Garrett Jensen, Brittney Doht, Kristen Cameron, Megan Malloy, and Corey Friedli also presented the advanced methods of completing business transactions and placed second, earning the right to compete at state.
Other members also participated in a variety of events, learning and growing within the leadership skills. Earning blue ribbons in their events were Addisen Beck (Job Interview), Austin Parcel (Cooperative Speaking), Danielle King (Natural Resources Speaking),and Jacob Niewohner (Extemporaneous Speaking). Earning Red Ribbons were Dillon Freese (Junior Public Speaking), Shelby Sunderman (Public Speaking), and the agricultural demonstration team of Austin Parcel, Jeff Bacon, Addisen Beck, Ben Kellogg, and Ben Hollman.
Through the efforts and results of the entire chapter, the Lyons-Decatur Northeast FFA Chapter earned the Sweepstakes Trophy for overall chapter for the sixth year in a row. The qualifiers now look toward March 28-30, 2007 and the State FFA Convention.
