Required Semester Course
Grade Level 9, 10, 11, 12

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students will understand the principals of effective communication. They will demonstrate competency by selecting and using appropriate forms of communication while working individually and in groups

 

STUDENT GOALS

  1. Present a positive image through verbal and nonverbal communication
  2. Compose and edit correspondence
  3. Develop an awareness of the language and varying customs required for international communications
  4. Demonstrate active listening skills
  5. Demonstrate sensitivity toward and appreciation for diverse population
  6. Research, compose and orally present information for a variety of situations utilizing appropriate technology
  7. Edit and correct text for grammatical/spelling errors not identified through spell/grammar checking software programs
  8. Understand the content of technical reading material by following directions or accurately interpreting data
  9. Write instructions for technical procedures
  10. Use appropriate forms of technology for communication

STANDARDS FOR GRADING

Tests and quizzes will be graded on a percentage grade of the total points.  In-class projects will be graded on participation with group members, and the finished project.  Daily assignments will be assigned points for accuracy and timeliness.
