Course Description:
This course is designed as an introduction into the landscaping industry. Students will learn types of plants as well as their uses, growth, needs and obstacles. Common tools and equipment in the industry will be explored. Students will develop landscaping plans and their costs.
Objectives:
- Students will identify career opportunities in the landscaping and turf management industry, describe the elements of growing and managing turf and landscape plants, and perform the necessary procedures of site analysis and evaluation. AE 12.5.2
- Students will identify, analyze and perform management and marketing operations necessary to grow plants in an artificial designed environment. AE 12.5.3
- Students will compare and contrast management practices and considerations necessary to provide an adequate nutritional environment for efficient plant production. AE 12.5.5
- Students will identify, explain and describe the important anatomy and physiology of plants. AE 12.5.7
- Students will identify career opportunities in the landscaping industry.
- Students will identify and demonstrate skills relating to chemical use.
- Students will learn hand and power tool identification and use.
- Students will learn basic irrigation equipment, techniques, and application.
- Students will perform the necessary procedures of site analysis and evaluation.
- Students will perform landscape design and cost estimations.

Grading:
Grades will be determined through quizzes, tests, student participation, work habits, class assignments, presentations, and other projects. The semester test will be worth 10% of your final semester grade. The rest will follow the weighting below:
Tests and quizzes 35%
Daily work 30%
Class Participation 20%
Experiential Points 15%
