Course Description:

Agronomy concepts and practices provide the major area of study in this course.  Soil and plant sciences will be explored.  The production, conservation, management, and record keeping associated with these practices will be introduced and practiced.  The course will also include water quality, hydrological cycle, and irrigation. 

 

Objectives:

  1. Students will recognize management considerations necessary to utilize, maintain, and conserve soil and water as basic elements to plant production. AE 12.5.4
  2. Students will compare and contrast management practices and considerations necessary to provide an adequate nutritional environment for efficient plant production. AE 12.5.5
  3. Students will identify and demonstrate environmentally compatible pest management strategies which promote efficient plant production. AE 12.5.6
  4. Students will identify, explain and describe the important anatomy and physiology of plants. AE 12.5.7
  5. Students will describe the reproductive processes, genetics, and biotechnology involved in efficient plant production. AE 12.5.8
  6. Students will identify and describe necessary cultural management strategies for efficient plant production. AE 12.5.9
  7. Students will describe the decision making processes involved in risk management decisions for efficient plant production. AE 12.5.10

Grading:

Grades will be determined through quizzes, tests, student participation, work habits, class assignments, presentations, and other projects.   The semester test will be worth 10% of your final semester grade.  The rest will follow the weighting below:

                Daily work                             30%

                Class Participation               20%

                Experiential Points               15%
