Course Description:
This course primarily studies agricultural business and management. A complete study of management terms and practices, financial management, marketing, record keeping, analysis, taxes, depreciation, insurance, and agricultural law encompasses this course. Employment skills and tools will be utilized.
Objectives:
Students will identify and describe the economic principles that influence the creation and conduct of business in a free market economy including the nature of international trade. AE 12.1.1
Students will identify agribusiness support services which function in a free market economy, describe the services which they provide and the career opportunities which exist within these organizations. AE 12.1.2
Students will demonstrate the elements of accurate financial accounting, and financial planning for business success. AE 12.1.3
Students will demonstrate the importance of human relations skills in successful business management, as well as the management and maintenance of business records. AE 12.1.4
Students will identify career opportunities which exist in the agribusiness industry. AE 12.1.6
Students will describe the elements of the free enterprise system as it relates to production and distribution of merchandise, entrepreneurship, and the structure of business organizations. 12.1.7
Students will describe the elements of human relations and the importance of communication skills as they relate to employment, compensation and benefit plans, training of employees, supervision and customer relations. AE 12.1.8
Students will describe the accounting and finance principles necessary to successfully operate a business. AE 12.1.11
Students will compare and contrast the business marketing principles utilized to develop product marketing and promotional strategies. AE 12.1.12
Students will list, compare and contrast the employment opportunities available through agricultural sales and marketing careers. AE 12.1.13
Identify, explain, and correctly demonstrate various commodity marketing.
Identify, explain, and correctly use basic agricultural law.
Correctly use resumes, job searches, cover letters, follow up letters, and interview skills.
Demonstrate proper use of resumes, cover letters, follow up letters, and interview settings.

Grading:
Grades will be determined through quizzes, tests, student participation, work habits, class assignments, presentations, and other projects. The semester test will be worth 10% of your final semester grade. The rest will follow the weighting below:
Tests and quizzes 35%
Daily work 30%
Class Participation 20%
Experiential Points 15%
