Reading 8 Syllabus

Reading 8 Syllabus
Teacher: Mrs. Sharp
Length of class: 12 weeks

Objective:
Motivate students to become better and more productive readers. Productive readers enter the book and the book enters the reader. Reading is always an active process to be undertaken by a mind full of questions.

Activities:
daily standardized tests, daily vocabulary words, vocabulary quizzes, reading assignments of various types, Accelerated Reader Books with computerized tests, crossword puzzles

Grading: will be based upon total points
1.200 points total - a point goal will be established according to your reading level after the Star Reading test has been taken
     - for example: if you receive 25 of your 25 points, you receive 200 points,
    if you receive 18 of your 22 points, you receive 164 points, any points over
    your established point goal you will receive extra credit
2. 100 points total - 4 Accelerated Reader books are required in the 12 week period 
    - for example if you read 4 books you receive 100 points, 3 books 75 points, etc...., any
    books over the 4 required you will receive 10 points extra credit per book
3. 100 points total - 3 passed (passing is 60% as set by the computer) Accelerated Reader tests are required
    - for example if you pass 3 tests you receive 100 points, if you pass 2 tests you receive 66
    points, 1 test 33 points
400 points will come from the Accelerated Reader portion of the class all other points will be earned from other activities

Time will be allotted each day for reading. To complete the requirements for the class some outside reading must be done. You don't have to read every day just on the days you eat.
