Spanish I Syllabus
Teacher: Mrs. Sharp
Course Description: Spanish I provides an introduction to the
language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Students will
acquire a command of the key vocabulary and structures necessary
for personal communication. Students will be made aware of the
geographic and cultural variety of the Hispanic culture in the
world and in their own country.
Basic Text: Spanish for Mastery I by Valette,
Valette, published by D.C. Heath and Company, 1984.
Objectives:
1. The students will attain an acceptable degree of proficiency in
the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
2. The students will have an awareness of the contemporary,
Spanish-speaking world and its culture.
Grading Policy:
The student is graded on a total points basis. Points will be
earned from the following:
-homework
-unit tests
-quizzes
-portfolio (written projects and activities)
-miscellaneous projects
Semester grades are based on the point averages from each quarter
(40% each quarter) and the semester test (20%).
Needed materials:
one spiral notebook for daily translations and one pocket folder
for portfolio materials
