Course:   Applied Math

 

Grade Level:  10-12

 

Course Description:  This course is designed to follow Transition Algebra and focus on the concepts and skills of Algebra in a way that is understandable to all students.  It helps complete the essential topics that provide a strong foundation of Algebra.

Student Goals:  Students will learn the following: a) how to solve systems of linear equations and inequalities and apply them to real-life situations, b) how to work with exponents and exponential functions, c) how to solve quadratic equations, d) how to factor and work with polynomials, e) how to work with rational expressions and equations, and f) how to work with radicals and apply them to geometry.

Units of Study:

  1. Pre-Course Review:  a review of units of study from Transition Algebra
  2. Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities
  3. Exponents and Exponential Functions
  4. Quadratic Equations and Functions
  5. Polynomials and Factoring
  6. Rational Expressions and Equations
  7. Radicals and More Connections to Geometry
