MUSIC APPRECIATION
COURSE SYLLABUS
MR. ROSE

 

OBJECTIVE:  This course is designed to expose the student with many different styles of music.  The student will learn how music has evolved through out time.  The schedule will be as follows:

SEMESTER 1 – MUSIC HISTORY

1st Quarter – Beginning of time – 1750
2nd Quarter – 1750 – 1900

A student will present a music timeline as part of his/her final 1st semester grade.

SEMESTER 2 – MUSIC HISTORY

3rd Quarter – 1900 - Present
4th Quarter – Multi-Cultural Music

Units could include:

       Africa
       India
       Japanese/Chinese
       South American
       Mexican/Spanish
       Native American

ATTENDANCE

Students are expected to attend class.  If a student is unable to attend, they are expected to make up work outside of class.

GRADING

The course will be graded according to the school/student handbook.  The following is how the course will be graded:
            
            Worksheets – 45%
            Tests – 35%
            Final Project – 20%
            Semester Final – 10%

TESTS
The tests will consist of multiple choice and essays.  Listening test will also be a part of each section

COURSE MATERIALS

The instructor will provide handouts as class material.  Students should provide their own paper for lectures.
